The
South African Association of Public Administration
and Management (SAAPAM) is pleased to formally
endorse the Accountability Institute of South Africa (AISA). SAAPAM is committed to accountable,
transparent and professional public sector service
delivery and good conduct and, as such, share
AISA's mandate to promote non-financial accountability
within the public sector. Noteworthy points about
AISA are:
1.
Established in 1999 as a not-for-profit membership-based
organisation, AISA promotes the concept and practice
of non-financial accountability across the public,
private and not-for profit sectors.
2.
AISA focuses on the development of methodological
standards, informed by international standards,
by working with institutions and organisations
across sectors to develop appropriate non-financial
accountability frameworks. This is to assist organsiations
to measure their impact in terms of ethical conduct,
social justice and environmental protection. Meaningful
engagement with stakeholders about performance
supported by rigorous operational data is central.
3. AISA endeavours to work with relevant South
African accreditation and certification bodies,
informed by international standards, to establish
accreditation and certification frameworks for
non-financial accountability.
AISA
has established strategic alliances with sectoral
representative bodies such as the South African
NGO Coalition (SANGOCO) and the South African
Chamber of Business. In line with these, SAPAM
is in the process of forging a strategic partnership
with AISA which will provide them with access
to the activities of SAAPAM. AISA was encouraged
to seek collaboration with SAAPAM's Ethics Chapter.
AISA
wishes to forge a link with a public sector representative
institution and has approached SAAPAM for its
mandate and requested them to facilitate its engagement
with the public sector. SAAPAM has agreed to endorse
AISA and to work with it, where possible, to promote
professionalism and accountability in the public
service.
Members
of SAAPAM wishing to enter into dialogue with
AISA may contact Ms. Sarojini Persaud, Managing
